Mette was Miss Louisiana 1997 and placed in the Top Six at Miss America. She spent her year of service touring the state of Louisiana as well as parts of Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, and Florida performing and promoting her platform Character Counts! to schools, youth groups, communities and service organizations. She was named the State Liaison for Character Counts! by Governor Mike Foster and was instrumental in the passing of legislation making character education programs a mandatory part of school curriculums. After her year of service, having completed 300+ appearances, she returned to Louisiana Tech University for her senior year and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry. She is now an MBA candidate in the Flores MBA program at Louisiana State University.
Mette enjoyed a very successful career with GlaxoSmithKline and ICOS Biotech before leaving the workforce to start a family in 2006. She and her husband moved to Highlands Ranch in 2009 and their family now includes three sons - Nick, Chris, and Kyle. She has been an active volunteer with organizations including the Junior League of Denver, the Leadership Council of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Ben Franklin Academy, and Camp Quality of Louisiana where she has co-hosted an annual telethon for 20+ years, raising more than 1.3 million dollars. Mette returned to her career in 2018 as an Infectious Disease Specialist - HIV with Janssen Therapeutics.
Mette has been trained in vocal performance both privately and at Louisiana Tech. However, her first love is ballet, and she has trained with Ballet West, the Houston Ballet, The Boston Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen. She was a cheerleader for the Houston Oilers and has performed the National Anthem for the Sugar Bowl, Independence Bowl, the Tokyo Bowl, NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL teams. She has remained active in the Miss America Organization since her year as Miss Louisiana and has served as an emcee, entertainer, and judge for numerous local and state competitions.
